Adults Enjoying the Piano Together is taught by Carol E. Spencer. Carol began teaching piano in high school and has taught piano and early childhood music professionally in Fort Worth since 1997. Although much of her music teaching since 1997 has focused on children, her professional career (outside of music) involved close collaboration with other adult leaders.
After qualifying as a piano major and earning a B.A. in Music from the University of North Texas (Denton), Carol continued her musical training, specializing in Gordon Music Learning Theory. She currently holds three certifications from the Gordon Institute for Music Learning, including an instrumental (piano) certification. Carol is also an active member of the Early Childhood Music & Movement Association and earned the Musikgarten Exemplary Award from 2003-2013.
Using Gordon Music Learning Theory, Carol teaches to each adult student’s abilities. By carefully observing each student’s responses to tonal and rhythm patterns, as well as their musical movements, Carol discovers each student’s strengths and challenges them to grow musically in ways that make sense to them.
